Since she was a child, she has seen Pokemon being hurt and protected as rare species, so she thinks about what she can do for the weak. At the same time, she is aware of her own powerlessness. She pretends to treat Pokemon, but it's like playing house. She is afraid of hurting Pokemon. The accumulation of these feelings leads to her escaping with the young Pokemon. When the time comes, she will act on emotion without thinking of the consequences.
Since baby Pokémon are said to come from another world, she believes that in order to truly help them, she needs to know how to get to that other world...
In other words, she thinks that she needs to research the folklore of the Alola region. However, since she is not a Pokémon trainer, she cannot move around Alola freely, and she wants a trainer who can lend her strength.
This leads to her interest in the protagonist.
