When she was in Sinnoh, she was still young, and because there was a risk that her psychic powers (telekinesis) would go out of control if she got excited, she was forbidden from fighting Pokémon in public, but as she grew older, she was able to control both her emotions and her psychic powers. To improve her skills as a Trainer, she came to the Unova region alone and trained, eventually becoming one of the Elite Four.

She's a highly skilled Pokemon trainer and does enjoy battling herself, but because she loses her composure when she gets excited her parents have forbidden her from battling.
Incidentally, her parents are currently traveling across the world.
Perhaps because she's cross about it, or perhaps because she's not used to interacting with others her attitude tends to be rather cold,
She's still rather childish and generally good-natured for her age.
