Sometimes the game tells you that you're running an outdated version. This simply means that the game code your browser downloaded isn't up-to-date, because the browser caches resources (images, scripts, etc) so it doesn't have to downloaded websites every time you visit them. On Pokéngine, resources are cached for a week; so, the game update will automatically be redownloaded in less than 7 days! But who wants to wait that long? You can circumvent this by:

Google Chrome / Opera

Go to Settings > More tools > Clear Browsing Data...
or you can press Ctrl+Shift+Del

After that, stay on the Basic tab, select either "All time" or "Last 7 days" as the time range, only check "Cached images and files" as seen in the image below.

Firefox

Go to Settings > Options > Privacy & Security > Clear Data...

After that, only check "Cached Web Content" as seen in the image below.

Or, press Ctrl+Shift+Del, select "Everything" as the time range, and only check "Cache" as seen in the following image.

If the above method is not working for you, try this ~advanced method~

Step 1: Press F12 to open the dev console. It should look like this. If it doesn't open, press Fn + F12. If it STILL doesn't open, Google your laptop and "how to press F12".

Step 2: Right click the refresh button and choose the THIRD option (empty cache).
